1. AUO and NTU establish joint R&D center to focus on next-generation key display technology

In order to introduce innovative R&D energy from academia and deepen the development of forward-looking technologies, AUO and NTU jointly established the “AUO-NTU Joint R&D Center”. The unveiling ceremony was held yesterday (6th), hosted by NTU President Guan Zhongmin and AUO Chairman and CEO Peng Shuanglang. The center will focus on three major areas of cooperation: forward-looking display technology, sensor technology, AIoT and field applications. AUO will invest more than NT$30 million in R&D funds to fund medium- and long-term large-scale industry-university cooperation plans. It is expected to combine cross-domain and cross-disciplinary teachers and talents, invest in cutting-edge display technology research, cultivate high-quality newcomers, and lead Taiwan’s industrial upgrading. Industry-university-research cooperation to jointly create a new situation.

AUO Chairman and CEO Peng Shuanglang said: “AUO is honored to cooperate with NTU again. This time, through the establishment of the ‘AUO-NTU Joint R&D Center’, we will jointly carry out various forward-looking research projects with NTU. In the process of dual-axis transformation, AUO not only forms alliances with industry partners, but also hopes to attract the world’s top talents and academic resources. Through long-term and in-depth exchanges, we can stimulate innovation sparks, so that Taiwan can continue to make progress in forward-looking key display technologies and continue to enhance the global visibility of smart field applications.”

NTU President Guan Zhongmin said: “NTU and AUO are very honored to cooperate with NTU again. This is AUO’s AUO and NTU have a long-term and close cooperative relationship in all aspects. NTU has abundant R&D energy and has many groundbreaking research results. This time, dozens of scientific research teachers and students specializing in electrical and electronic research have been gathered to jointly develop forward-looking key display technologies. We hope that the establishment of the joint R&D center will accelerate the accumulation of R&D capabilities and cultivate a new generation of technical talents. ”

AUO is committed to investing in high-value-added cutting-edge display technologies and field solutions. In addition to jointly building an industrial ecosystem with value chain partners, it also invests more R&D energy in the development of forward-looking display technologies through industry-university cooperation. The “AUO-NTU Joint R&D Center” will focus on next-generation key display technologies, combining the outstanding research strength of NTU students and teachers on the international stage, aiming to pursue high-tech application fields such as accurate and safe medical diagnosis and automotive transportation, and make key breakthroughs in the future, greatly improving Taiwan’s industrial technology.

AUO has been deeply involved in campus cooperation with NTU for 12 years, with more than 50 industry-university cooperation projects. Over the years, the cooperative institutions have spanned the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Engineering, and the School of Medicine. The cooperation results of the two sides in forward-looking technology have frequently appeared in international journals, and relevant patents have been obtained. Some technologies have been introduced into the preliminary research of mass production technology. In the future, the R&D center will integrate cross-domain technologies such as optoelectronics, electromechanical information, the Internet of Things, big data, machinery, and innovation, and play an important role as a cradle for technological development and talent cultivation. Through cutting-edge technology cooperation, learning and application are integrated to create greater value-added synergy.

AUO regards talents as the most valuable asset for corporate growth. In addition to gathering high-level R&D talents through industry-university cooperation, in order to expand the recruitment and retention of high-quality employees, AUO is also committed to creating a proactive workplace environment, including a more flexible and enthusiastic working environment, a complete training system, a diverse and broad development stage, and providing competitive salary and benefits. In addition to significantly increasing the starting salary of new employees this year, AUO also gave back to current colleagues with a salary increase ratio that is several times better than the industry, with all-round talent investment, strengthening the layout of various fields, creating a positive cycle of corporate profits, value enhancement and employee growth.

2. With a total investment of 63 billion yuan in the first half of the year, the first BOE 8.6-generation AMOLED production line in China was officially approved!

The groundbreaking ceremony of the first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line in China invested and built by BOE was held in Chengdu. The construction of this production line will greatly promote the rapid entry of the OLED display industry into the medium-sized development stage, lead the Chinese OLED industry to achieve a qualitative leap, and is of great significance to promoting the optimization and upgrading of the semiconductor display industry. This is also a major breakthrough and milestone event for BOE in the OLED field, which fully demonstrates the leading role of leading enterprises in technological innovation and leading the high-quality development of the semiconductor display industry. BOE Technology Group Chairman Chen Yanshun, President Dr. Gao Wenbao and other leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Chen Yanshun, Chairman of BOE Technology Group, said in his speech that the completion and commissioning of BOE’s 8.6-generation AMOLED production line project will become the world’s most technologically advanced and largest medium-sized OLED display device production base, giving full play to the advantages of technological leadership and industrial agglomeration, promoting the upgrading of the semiconductor display industry, accelerating the development of the global OLED new display industry, and bringing broader development opportunities to upstream and downstream industries. In the future, BOE will continue to firmly implement the “Internet of Things” strategy, work with partners from all walks of life, and help Chengdu’s new display industry “build a circle and strengthen the chain” to create a flexible display industry cluster with international influence.

BOE’s 8.6-generation AMOLED production line is located in the High-tech West District of Chengdu, Sichuan, with a total investment of 63 billion yuan and a designed production capacity of 32,000 glass substrates per month (size 2290mm×2620mm). It mainly produces high-end touch OLED displays for smart terminals such as laptops and tablets. BOE uses low-temperature polycrystalline silicon oxide (LTPO) backplane technology and stacked light-emitting device preparation technology to enable OLED screens to achieve lower power consumption and longer service life; at the same time, the production line can greatly improve the cutting efficiency of medium-sized OLED products, reduce production costs, and effectively meet consumers’ demand for lightweight and portable IT products. The first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line in China invested and built by BOE is the first AMOLED production line in China.

The 6th generation AMOLED production line will not only greatly promote the upgrading of OLED technology, but will also actively drive the development of upstream and downstream industrial chains, which is of great significance to promoting the development of industrial clusters in the southwest region and driving economic growth.
